Organic Whey Protein FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Our Organic Whey Protein

Are your products organic and rBGH-free? Why is that important?

There is an important distinction to be made here, as not all products that are hormone-free are also organic. Our whey is organic and the cows from which it came were not treated with bovine-growth hormone. We ensure that our whey is both chemical and hormone free. This is important because our customers are concerned with putting only the healthiest products into their body. Thus, having any unnatural additives, whether intentional or unintentional, is unacceptable. We also are very conscious of the effect pesticides and other chemicals have on our environment. Thus, to preserve the sanctity of our environment is another reason we choose to manufacture our whey by only the highest organic standards.

Do you sell concentrated or isolated whey?

We believe our whey should contain as many of the nutrients found in whey protein as possible. Thus, we sell whey concentrate to retain more of the nutritional value that whey protein contains. We produce our own whey in a manner that reduces our environmental impact as much as possible.

Is your whey lactose and/or gluten free?

Although whey protein inevitably contains some amount of lactose, we make painstaking efforts to keep lactose content to a minimum. Resultantly, even our lactose intolerant customers don't report any problems when consuming our whey protein. Our whey protein is also gluten free. Please note that it is processed in a facility that also handles gluten containing products, however it is isolated from them as much as is possible.

Can your whey be mixed with hot water? Can I use a blender?

Mixing our whey with hot water won't affect the protein levels. It might cause changes in the structural properties of the protein, but the overall amino acid levels will not change. Thus, the protein will still have the same nutritional value and benefits. Mixing our whey with a blender also will not affect the protein levels. Whey proteins are small enough that the blades of a blender will not affect them. Instead they will pass unharmed around the blades of the blender. Thus, mixing our whey into a shake with a blender is a great way to drink our whey!

Does the protein in your products degrade at all? How do you process your whey to prevent degradation?

Degradation is a natural part of whey processing. However, our method of cold processing with microfiltration stops protein from denaturing. This keeps our protein degradation to a minimum..

Is the milk from grass-fed cows?

We attempt in earnest to use only grassfed cows for our whey by utilizing family farms that employ organic standards of grazing. They also do not use growth hormones to stimulate milk production. We expect that our farmers rotationally graze and, despite the difficulty in finding cows that are solely grassfed, we encourage grassfeeding only in all of our participating farms.

Why do you use stevia?

Stevia is a natural alternative to sugar. It is a wild-growing herb that is actually sweeter than sugar, but does not have the negative health effects that table sugar has. It doesn't raise blood sugar levels or add excessive calories to your diet.

Do you add MSG to your whey?

We absolutely do not add any MSG to any products we sell. In fact, we test all products to ensure that they are absolutely MSG-free.

Do you remove casein from your whey?

Yes. Casein is a milk protein found in cheese that can be found in fresh whey. We employ a microfiltration process, however, that removes any traces of casein from our whey.

Can I buy your whey outside of the United States?

Our whey can be shipped outside of the United States if ordered via our website.

Does your whey compare to the whey of other companies when it comes to amino acid content?

Yes, our whey is chock full of branched amino acids. We test all of our whey to determine the exact amino acid breakdown and will happily provide this information upon request.

Do you use genetically modified soy lecithin? Why do you have to use soy lecithin in your whey?

Soy lecithin is an important part of the whey-making process. It is used to improve agglomeration, which makes our whey powder easy to dissolve. This also affects texture, making it easy and enjoyable to drink our whey. We absolutely never use genetically modified soy lecithin in our whey, however.

The Inside Scoop

I'm not a very big, muscular guy. So I have to train a lot harder to just stay at the same level of fitness of most of my friends. So I need all the help I can get from supplements.

When I searched around for the best protein supplements, they all either had dangerous artificial sugars (aspartame, etc.), were heavily processed, or just plain tasted like chalk.

Then I started reading about how you have to be very careful of the kind of whey protein you buy, because it is a concentrated food. Therefore, if you start with hormone-injected, pesticide-ridden milk, you end up with a powder that I believe does more harm than good. I knew I had to find a better alternative.

Luckily, just "next door" I found in the beautiful rolling hills of the Midwest the answer to my quest: certified organic whey. This is the real deal, people! Mostly grass-fed, hormone-free, GMO-free, certified organic whey protein is one of the best things you can do for your health and body. And now when I take this after my workout, I know I'm treating my body right. I hope you enjoy its pure, fresh taste as much as I do!
